Pearl Crescent Butterfly, Bee, Zinnia, Jewel Weed, New England Aster

Got a new book on butterflies: found out this is a Pearl Crescent butterfly on the New England Aster today, and it is a female because has white on it. (The antennae are dotted.) The book is called "Learn about Butterflies in the Garden" by Brenda Dziedzic.  I am joining a club called the Southeast Michigan Butterfly Association....SEMBA.  I learned that it is so important to grow the right native plants for the butterflies.  They are very specific.  Also leave the plants tall in the fall, butterflies can over-winter as an egg, caterpillar, larvae, or butterfly.  They can be found almost anywhere, even in a woodpile, so it is important to be observant so not to disturb them. Only 1 in 100 eggs survive.  Keeping their habitat is very important, it is all about education.

Jewel weed is very abundant here...

Love this pink zinnia........they have so many petals....
