Tip: Aroma Young Coconut...my new favorite thing!

Keep reading.................
I just learned about these fun little coconuts, I had never seen them before. The juice is fabulous and I scrape the inside with a spoon like ice cream. They are very good for you. I found them at Whole Foods, but Randazzos fruit market for a dollar each! Let me know if you try one, I would love to hear about your experience,

I just tried one of these today from whole foods. It was amazing! I'm hooked. I can't wait to get more.

I bought one last week, but can't figure out how to get into it. The inner core is hard as a rock! Can you help? What do you mean when you say to just open the top? If you would email me at songsofgrace@juno.com I would greatly appreciate it! Love your pictures, by the way!

young aroma cocnuts also known as young thai coconuts aren't just delicious. they are also a great source of nutrition.
they contain the same isotonic and eletrlytic compounds as our blood. they are basically a universal donor. in fact, even today in some third world countries they are used in place of blood transfusions.
i find that when i drink them my energy levels get a boost and my mood is lifted to the point of euphoria.

Thanks for the comment! Blood transfusions...WOW! I have noticed a distict energy boost when I have eaten before a workout. Do you have an easy way of opening them?

See where it is cut? Put a heavy knife in that area and hammer it in a few places. I use an old knife and a small hammer. Make sure you cut in the circle around the top. There are also directions on the internet, very good ones under Thai coconuts. It will have photos of a step by step. They are not as hard as the traditional coconuts. Good Luck!

I only get it for the coconut water. I just drill it (yes with an actual drill, lmao)....

A drill...what a great idea!

Here's a good recipe me and the kids came up with for brunch today. My daughter named it Cocolachea. My son also helped out a lot but we gave naming rights to my daughter....everyone gets credit:)

Recipe for Cocolachea

combine the following ingredients in a pither and stir

+ The milk of 1 chilled young aroma coconut strained through cheese cloth.
+ 1/2 cup fresh chilled pineapple juice
+ 1/4 cup chilled orange juice

pour into fancy glasses and serve.

+ Optional 2oz of soda water can be added to each glass to make for a little more interesting experience (we liked it that way). My kids are 6 and 9 and we had a fun time creating this recipe. We had it with brunch but I'm thinking a little rum and bananna liquer would make this a nice tropical adult beverage...more on that when I have more time to experiment.

Thanks for the info on this weird coconut thing. I'd never seen one before but ran across it at Walmart of all places. Go figure....

Mark

Thanks for the recipe Mark, I think it would be a healthy a tasty treat. Thanks to Cocolachea too! It is a good idea to strain it through a sieve to keep out any little bits of the nut. Did your daughter like spooning out the white creamy inside?

Ok, While grocery shopping today I saw this neat little coconut and i just had to have it. I had no idea what to do with it, but curiosity struck me. I had to google it and found this site. I saw it say just open the top so that is what I tried to do. lol Not that easy. I had to use a hammer and a screw driver. I punched one hole it in and juice came flying out at me..: ) Anyway, after a few holes in various places around the top, I finally got it open. The juice is delicious, although not to sweet. The white inside didn't have much flavor, BUT I absolutely loved it. I can't wait to get another.

I was at the store asking the gentleman in the fruit and vegetable department for instructions on how to use this coconut. He did not know. Thank you for this information on my new exploration. I would appreciate any and all ideas of how you are using your coconut. Many thanks.

I used a hand axe to open it

I put the coconut on the side and use my biggest knife and hit it hard near the tip. I use a heavy wooden spoon in the other hand with a large handle so my left hand is not near the knife. It takes about 6 good hits. That is the easiest for me, if you hit the right spot it takes less.
Today I added ice cubes to the juice to make a smoothie. No sugar needed.
Hope that helps....I am working on getting better at this.
