I am working on Dan's heritage book and I think this story is so sad and sweet at the same time. Louis was 8 when his mother died and his Dad gave them up for adoption. They had just gotten here from Germany. At the age of 17 Louis went on the orphan train in Illinois and found a family farm to work on. He went to college and also WWI. He ended up marrying one of the daughters and they had three children. One was Dan's father.
